Tactile Indicator Studs

LTAS Abrasive Top Stainless Steel

Latham LTAS Silicon Carbide mineral infill stainless steel Tactile studs are suitable for both interior and exterior applications. They have an abrasive top designed for long life and to deliver safety for vision-impaired pedestrians. All studs are designed in accordance with AS 1428.4-2018 and AS 1428.1-2021.

LTAS 316 Grade Stainless Steel Tactiles are Composite, Discrete Tactiles, available with 16 insert colours using the Latham Supagrit Silicon Carbide Mineral insert. The 10mm deep stem means these are installed into pre-drilled holes in the flooring at locations as set out in the relevant standard.

Latham recommend that the tactiles be fixed in place using Latham Titazel Thixotropic Epoxy adhesive. Alternatively, they can be simply installed using the Latham green Lat-Loc plug, which allows simple adhesive-free installation, in the right circumstances.

Tactiles and Tactile Directional Indicators are designed to assist the visually impaired in navigating. They are required both in Australia and internationally by specific construction standards, which set out when they must be used and their location, design and style.

Latham Tactile Indicator products are made from 316 grade stainless steel, or solid brass. According to AS/NZS 1428.4:2009, because each indicator is an individual unit, these are classified as Discrete Tactiles and Composite Discrete Tactiles. Discrete Tactiles and discrete Tactile Directional Indicators of one particular colour (such as the Latham LTSS, LTSSL, LTSSD, LTASB, LTASW, LTSSB and LTSSW or LTBS series) need to achieve 45% luminance contrast with the surrounding floor finish to comply with the standard.

Composite Discrete Tactiles are made with an abrasive infill in a different colour, such as the Latham LTAS and LTAB series. To comply with the standard, these need to achieve 60% luminance contrast between the abrasive infill and the surrounding floor finish.
