The Original Neoprene-X-Pansion Loc, Tile and Dividing Strips

Neoprene-X-Pansion Loc, Tile and Dividing Strips

The original Latham Loc Strips

Owned, designed and manufactured in Australia

Also known as Latham strips, control strips, isolation joints and movement joints, Neoprene-X-Pansion Loc, Tile and Dividing Strip systems are designed to control thermal expansion and contraction in constructed surfaces.

As one of the first products manufactured by the Latham family company back in the 1960s, the Neoprene-X-Pansion Loc Strip Control Joint System remains the industry leader for floor control strips in the Australian construction industry. After 50 years, no other manufacturer has yet been able to replicate the process that Latham’s has developed to create the secure bonding of the neoprene insert to the metal side plates our floor control strips provide.

The Latham difference

Another reason our floor control strips differ from the products of our competitors is
that we pay particular attention to the quality, straightness and uniformity of the specialised neoprene extrusion. This is critical to accommodate thermal movement within the flooring system, without compromising it structural integrity.

Unfortunately, many other manufactures skip this step to make construction cheaper — but at Latham’s, cutting costs at the risk of lowering quality standards is never an option.

Latham strips are designed specially for installation in ornamental and architectural hard paving. For use in stone, tile, terrazzo and virtually any other solid floor finish which requires movement control due to thermal contraction and expansion. They serve to absorb climate-related tile and paving growth and minimise erosion and cracking to surface paving.

The strips are manufactured specifically for use in sand cement bed underlay, where the surface flooring finish will be installed onto the wet cement bed. They can be used both internal and external applications.

Please note that in external areas where increased movement and temperature change can be expected, a combination of wider neoprene control strips and reduced flooring component sizes should be considered.

Product features

Quick and easy installation
  • Ready to use and requires no additional on-site work to install (other than cutting to length where applicable).

  • Installed at the same time that paving underlay or adhesive is laid, Latham strips provide structural anchorage and a gauge for paving thickness. For more information about how to install the Neoprene-X-Pansion Loc Strip Control Joint System series, see our Installation Guide.

High-quality materials and design

  • Fabricated from high-quality brass, zinc, stainless steel, aluminium or rebonite plates, which are bonded to an air-channelled neoprene core.

For external Loc Strip applications, brass, stainless steel or rebonite with stainless steel anchors are recommended. For external adhesive fixed applications, brass or stainless steel side plates should be considered.

  • Built-in air channels to allow maximum flexibility for expansion and contraction whilst maintaining hard wearing surface.

  • Latham strips can be custom built to accommodate to tight curves and compliment almost any surrounding materials.

  • Vandal resistant and robust under high-frequency pedestrian traffic.
